About Joe Bertagna


Joe Bertagna has spent a half century as a player, coach, administrator and journalist in the sport of ice hockey. A college hockey commissioner for 38 years, he remains active as a goalie coach and commissioner of the Eastern Hockey League, a junior hockey league in the eastern United States. He has also served as the first and, to date, only Executive Director of the American Hockey Coaches Association, a position he began in 1991.

A graduate of Harvard University, he played goal at Harvard and briefly as a professional. He also coached for a short time at Harvard, most notably as its first women’s hockey coach. His goalie coaching has taken him to the National Hockey League and the Olympics.

Joe and his wife, Kathy, reside in Gloucester, MA.
